I had twins 9-months ago, and since that
time, have been unable to lose the excess
belly fat in the lower abdominal region.
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, so a
tremendous amount of exercise / crunches
is not possible. Any suggestions on how
to successfully target this area and
finally get rid of the excess fat??
Thanks so much!!

Congrats on the twins! I assume you had
these babies by c-section? I also have
had 2 cesareans and have that nasty little
belly fat under and above the scar. The
good news is that even if you did do
crunches, it would only tone the muscle
underneath the fat. When you lose weight,
you lose it all over and can't really
target a particular area, but exercising
that area can make you look a little more
toned if you really work on it.
I have severe back problems, so I'm not
able to work the abs much either. My
suggestion is just to practice sucking in
your stomach muscles as well as you can.
You can do this standing, sitting, or
lying down. Pull them in and out and
relax. It might take a little while for
you to get the hang of it, but it will
tone those muscles down there, and bone
movement isn't necessary.
The only other thing that you can do is
diet. I don't know if you are
breastfeeding, but you would want to wait
until after you've finished with that if
you are. Remember it took you 9 months to
put on those lbs, and you had twins too,
so it will take you 9 months and more
because of the twins to lose the pregnancy
weight.
