My friend is 16. I am 17 and my friends
tend to come to me with all kinds of
problems because I am the oldest. All my
friends that are girls and I talk about
everything including our periods and other
personal things. My one friend that is
16 has had her period since she was 13 but
had never has been regular. I've told
her it's normal for teenagers to not be
regular, but in the last year her period
has been really werid. She didn't have
it for 6 months and now she got it again
but has had it for almost a month stright.
Her mom had problems when she was in her
earily 20's. My friend told her mom that
she had been bleeding after like 10 days
and that this scared her but her mom say's
not to worry about it, now it has been
almost a month but she doesn't want to
talk to her doctor because it is a male
and her mom keeps saying if it doesn't end
soon we will call the doctor. I told my
friend she needs to find a doctor she is
comfortable with and talk to them as soon
as possible. I know that it is ok to
miss periods or have them for a few days
longer that normal when you are a teen,
but you shouldn't be bleeding for almost a
month. Do any of you have any ideas of
how to help her find a doctor she might
like or comfotable with, I was going to
have her see my doctor but she just moved
away. Or do any of you have an idea of
what could be wrong??
Thank you for any help.

Hi helpingfriend,
i've read a bit about this & it is
quite normal 4 a young girl's cycle 2 b
irregular in the first 3-4years of her
starting her periods because it is
something very new 4 a young body &
therefore, its not unsual 2 have long
periods or short ones or none at all.It is
the same at menopause when a womans cycle
is preparing to stop altogether because
again, this is another change 4 the body.
Because ur friend is young & I presume
since u didnt mention it,not sexually
active,i wouldnt imagine she had any
serious medical problems however,it doesnt
seem normal that shes had a period 4 a
month.
If she is worried about it (cos im sure
it'd b awful 2 b bledding 4 that long) I
suggest u try 2 encourage her 2 c her
doctor just 2 make sure theres nothing
wrong
best wishes
liz
