wellbutrin worked great but caused hives Posted: 02-29-08 18:54pm
i'm a young female and i switched from
lexapro to wellbutrin xl about a week and
a half ago due to the weight gain (i
gained 9 lbs in about 2 months)... the
wellbutrin started working for me almost
instantly, my appetite decreased and the
sexual effects with my boyfriend were
great, but yesterday i broke out in really
bad hives, but no other allergy symptoms.
i'm pretty positive the wellbutrin caused
the hives as i haven't done anything
different lately besides that, but i'm
really upset because i felt i finally
found a drug i actually liked. is there
any way i could keep taking it? (i'm not
taking it until i see my doctor tuesday)
are the hives just a temporary side
effect? i'm really upset as it made sex
better than ever and was working fine in
the depression area, i was less tired and
everything. is there any other
anti-deppressant with little or no risk of
weight gain and no sexual side effects?
anything similar to wellbutrin? any
answers are appreciated. thank you in
advance.

I'm sorry no one answered your post
earlier. Did you finally recover from the
hives? I would have suggested that you
take an otc allergy remedy such as
claritin, which wouldn't make you drowsy,
and you could ok with the your doctor to
take along side of the wellbutrin.
The reason why I don't like taking
something to get rid of the hives is
because the reaction you have just seems
to be hives, but it could be just covering
up something more serious if you took an
allergy remedy.

Hi, i have been taking wellbutrin for
quite a while now and it's worked
perfectly for me. My depression's better
and it did reduce my appetite and i even
lost a few pounds. Now about the hives, i
didn't see any possible side effects of
hives on wellbutrin, did you find out what
it was? i'm thinking allergic reaction or
maybe something totally different...
About other anti-depressants that have
little or no risk of weight gain, my
doctor told me wellbutrin was the only one
but it still
doesn't hurt to research or ask your
doctor. Anyway hope you are better =]

Whenever (and I don't care what it is) you
get severe hives from a medication, stop
it emmediatly and call you doctor. Even on
a weekend. Some side effects and be deadly
with some medications in retospect of
whatever else you are taking. Even if that
is all you are taking. This sound like a
classic syptom of an allergic reaction to
the medication. Hives are usually the
first thing that show up.

I was on wellbutrin for 5 days, but it's
enough for me, I didn't have any apetite,
any sleep, I had headache, and finally got
awful itching rash and when hives.
