What do you think of "AMES" for a boy? Posted: 04-11-08 07:33am
When I tell all my girlfriends that my
husband and I are naming our first born
AMES, the women are openly puzzled by the
name or ask why, which is rather rude.
Even if you don't care for the name you
should still support it, IMO.
All my husband's friends (guys) seem to
really like it. Is the name that bad or
are my friends just odd?

Ames was a cheap department store (a lot
like K-mart or Wal-mart) that went out of
business a while ago.
Sometimes people comment on names because
they really are bad.

I know you are not asking for a review of
the name, but I think Ames would be a
great nickname for James or Amos. By
itself...it reminds me K-mart.
I disagree with what you said about how
even if a person doesn't like a name they
should support it. Where is that a rule? I
will not support anyone if they are using
a name I think is bad.

Living in Florida, I have NEVER heard of
Ames Dept store. Thanks for the feedback
but a non-existant discount store will not
sway our opinion of the name.

Then why ask for opinions? If you don't
want to hear that people think your name
is bad...don't ask!

If you and your husband like Ames that is
all that matters.

Agreed. It's your
little one; you can name him whatever
you'd like!

What are you thinking of for a middle
name? I really like Ames! Some people
are soooo ignorant, do not let them sway
your opinion, you will regret it if you
do! And yes I agree, people who question
or act negative when you tell them of your
new baby boy's name, are ignorant. PLEASE
PEOPLE - have some respect! I would never
disrespect someone like that. If you
don't like it, FINE, you are entitled to
your opinion - just don't respond at all,
if you can't say something nice!
