Worried About a Growth On My Buttocks Posted: 11-12-05 22:46pm
I haven't been showering as much as I
should've the last 3 months or so (only
about once a week), because of
university/laziness, and I guess that's
come back to bite me in the ass
(literally), because I felt a kind of
growth on the right part of my inner
buttocks when I was showering about 4
weeks ago.
It was a tiny little zit on my buttocks
basically. It was the same colour
as the rest of the skin and really was so
insignificant that I didn't give it much
thought at all.
Fast forward 2 weeks, and i'm showering
again (still only doing it about once a
week), and the growth has worsened.
It felt kind of like a pimple, but it
wasn't really round. It was like a tiny
skin-coloured ring with a white zit in the
middle.
I figured it was just a zit at the time,
and didn't really think much of it, even
though I was slightly grossed out.
Again, I was lazy this week, and when I
went to shower, the pimple thing had
stayed relatively the same, but now both
sides of my inner buttocks felt kind of
bumpy.
Like, it felt like I had goosebumps all
over that area, and when I checked with a
mirror, that part of the skin was slightly
darker than the rest and it looked kinda
dry and flaky (no redness, etc).
The pimple thing doesn't hurt or itch and
neither do these goosebump things, but I
have no idea what they are, and i'd like
some insight.
Hygiene (or lack of it) was probably the
main factor in causing this, so keep that
in mind I guess.
It sounds kind of like ringworm from what
i've read, but it's not red at all, so i'm
not sure. I'm hoping that's not it,
since I would be very embarassed but what
can you do I guess.
My friend told me it's probably just a
boil. Which is still disgusting but less
embarassing.

It's most likely just a boil. I don't
mean to gross you out, but i've gotten
those on plenty of occasions and they were
painful...So painful that I had a hard
time sitting down. You can do a couple of
things about it...You can just try not to
acknowledge that it's there and allow it
to heal on its own, or you can sit in a
tub full of hot water to soften it and
then lance it with a pin. I wouldn't
recommend lancing simply because of the
awkward angle (i know from experience - I
stabbed myself), but it's still an option.
