xerostomia or Burning Mouth Syndrome Posted: 06-05-08 21:44pm
After a bronchial type infection in March
and a slew of antibiotics I developed
something that can best be described as
Burning Mouth Syndrome. It felt like my
mouth had been burned by chemicals and I
felt a stickiness on my teeth. Since then
I have taken Diflucan and liquid Nystatin.
It went from excess saliva to very saliva.
I saw my doctor twice, went to ENT (no
help at all - barely did an exam) back to
my doctor again. I even went to my
dentist. No one seems to know what it is
or what I can do to alleviate it. Right
now it feels like there's a hair ball on
the back of my tongue/throat, my mouth is
dry and sticky and my saliva feels thick
and sticky. Nothing I have tried over the
counter has helped one bit.

I to have suffered from BMS for 4 years
now. This is a very debilitating syndrome.
Trying to convince doctors of that is a
different story though.
Most Doc's think your crazy, that's why
they call it idiopathic syndrome.
I have been to all dr's. regarding this:
ENT, GI, Dentist, Neuropathy,
Neurologist, Md's etc, none could find
anwsers for me. Most of the information
I've found has been on the internet.
For me (ALA) Alpha Lipoic Acid 600 mg.
daily - 3x200mg. takes care of most of the
burning sensation. I use Biotene mouthwash
and toothpaste, it stops the bubbly sticky
sensation in mouth. I also use spry mints
and spry peppermint gum. I don't leave
home without them. I sure would like to
meet someone else with this thing.
Sometimes I think I'm the only one with
it. Anyone in Az. let me know. This is a
life changing problem with no cure.
