I'm really liking Xinnia [pr. ZIN-nee-ah]
for a girl. I know it's not technically a
name, or even a word..but I still like it.
(And for the record, I hate
Zinnia...there's something about the 'Z' I
don't find attractive.)
Could I get away with using this as a
name, without having my future daughter
hate me?

I think it would be a pain to live with.
Most people will assume it's spelled
Zinnia.
What about Xenia?

I used to love Zinnia. I don't think
there's anything wrong with Xinnia.

Please reconsider naming your daughter
this. Zinnia is a flower..............but
she would be ridiculed growing up. Its
sounds about as bad a Daisy, or Rose, or
Petunia.........But then others name their
kids after cars
Mercedes, Lexus, or jewels....Diamond,
Ruby, Pearl..............there are lots of
names out there.................you
asked.....just giving my opinion!

for this as well as any other unusual
slash difficult name; give the child a
secon name that is normal so they can opt
for that if they want to.
I don't think there's anything wrong with
having a name that is also a noun - though
some are better than others. There is
nothing wrong with Rose, Lilly, Delia,
etc. etc. I wouldn't say 'no' to a name
just because it's also a flower - a flower
has connotations of beauty, softness, and
gentleness.

I agree, I LOVE flower names. I think
they're adorable. I can't imagine anyone
making fun of her simply because her name
is Xinnia/Zinnia. She may have some
problems with people mis-spelling it if
you go with Xinnia, but I guess I'm having
a hard time thinking of what a kid could
say about this name that would be
insulting, other than that they just plain
'don't like the name'.
