Q: Yeast infections and the possibility of pregnancy
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 25th, 2009
I'm a bit nervous. I had my period on Oct 1st until Oct 5th while I was on holiday. On the 12th I had a yeast infection for about 8 days. Now its the 25 and I have my period AGAIN???! Is there something wrong with me? I know that is hard to say but any idea would be great. I eat well. My husband and I do have unprotected sex. I am NOT on the pill and he does not ejaculate in me. Is this all have to do with my yeast infection or is it likely Im sick. The reason why Im nervous is that Ovarian cysts do run in my family so Im a bit scared. Or could it be pregnancy.

You would like to know whether the yeast infection affected your menstrual cycle or whether you are pregnant. Yeast infections are caused by a fungus.

A yeast infection in the genital system is usually presented as a discomfort and itching in the genital region. The disease itself doesn’t affect the menstrual cycle or lead to infertility. The menstrual cycle usually lasts from 28 to 35 days, but rarely and occasionally, it may last a few days shorter or longer. If the period is regularly on a few days cycle, even being a week late may mean pregnancy.

According to the data that you described it doesn’t seem likely that you have any medical condition. You may consider having a pregnancy test. You may also see a gynecologist to rule out ovarian cysts.

I am not able to make a complete diagnosis online about your medical condition. Please contact your doctor or other healthcare provider such as a gynecologist for further diagnosis and treatment options.
